Semaglutide
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the effects of a naturally occurring hormone in the body to regulate blood sugar and reduce hunger. It works by increasing insulin release, slowing gastric emptying, and helping you feel fuller for longer, supporting both weight loss and blood sugar control.
Semaglutide is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) typically once a week. The injection is usually given in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm using a pre-filled pen that makes it easy to self-administer.
In clinical studies lasting 56 to 68 weeks, non-diabetic participants with obesity or excess weight who combined GLP-1 medications with diet and exercise experienced an average weight loss of up to 15% of their body weight. By contrast, those who used only diet and exercise achieved a weight reduction of 2.4% to 3.5%.
While individual results vary, many users report experiencing weight loss and improved blood sugar levels within 2–4 weeks of starting treatment. Full benefits may take up to 3 months to become fully apparent.
